Local to the Springfield, MO area: SMARC (Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club) will be conducting Field Day activities at the Red Cross, corner of West Bypass and Division in Springfield; and the Nixa Amateur Radio Club will have Field Day at Nixa High Pointe Elementary (same location as last year).

2012 Ozark Mountain Hamfest is in the books.....

and it was FUN! According to Terry, KC0SQE with the Nixa Amateur Radio Club, there were several upgrades (2 Extras!) and a new Technician!! Thanks to Steve Palmer, KA0SPM, for the antenna presentation; and thanks to D&L Antenna, Associated Radio, WA0H, Hilltop Embroidery and WB0W for coming and helping make another successful Hamfest. A BIG thanks to all the people who came and set up tables full of equipment and other neat stuff! Thanks also to the Barnstormers and the R/C airplane enthusiasts. Hope you had as much fun as we all did!

Ozark Mountain Hamfest

Ozark Mountain Hamfest coming soon -- January 7, 2012! Doors open at 8AM! Entry is the same as last year, $5 at the door.

Reserved Table setup is 6am-8am -
If you have a table reserved, please arrive before 8AM, and enter through the northern-most door on the east side of the church. Also, please make sure you are not parking in the disabled-access spaces, unless your vehicle is tagged/licensed for that. Check in with Joye or James for your table when you arrive.

Testing is at 10AM.

Steve Palmer, KA0SPM, will give an Antenna Presentation after Ham Testing.

Hope to see you all there! Talk in frequency for Saturday morning is 146.520 simplex.

Repeater Issues - November 2011

The W0OMD repeater has been experiencing some issues lately and after a series of checks on our own equipment, the Wireless Internet Provider was requested to come to the site and examine the Wireless radio system. After a test with their equipment, the repeater's uplink was only passing around 10% of our uplink packet traffic. This explains issues with choppy and distorted signal reports from other stations on the reflector. After a high gain antenna was installed, the signal strength increased approximately by 10dB on transmit and receive and thus increased our link quality. Other issues may be at hand; for example, other servers involved in the wireless system.
We hope this will bring the system back up to reliable connectivity to the main DSTAR server - as always any and all reports of issues with the system are encouraged! Email to kc0tqd@w0omd.org.

APRIL PICNIC AND ANTENNA PARTY

The OMAR April Picnic and Antenna Party will be held April 30th, 10am to 3pm at Living Memorial Park (just up the road from the Springfield Nature Center) 4405 S. Glenstone, Springfield MO. We will have the North side of the Pavilion.

TESTING: License testing will be held at 11AM; for information on testing, please contact Don Dillard, N0WHY.

New DSTAR Repeater - Joplin MO

Welcome to the newest DSTAR repeater in MO!!

444.625+ (D-Star DV Only) is up in West Joplin, 400' on a tower located just 2 miles west of Junge & Maiden Lane in EM27RC.

There are currently plans for a 2 meter sister repeater linked to 444.625 and the gateway, as well as to move the antenna system up another 150-200' for better coverage.

The repeater will soon have full D-Star Gateway Access available, more information on D-star and a few educational video's can be found at: http://www.n0csw.com/node/63

Tower Maintenance

The W0OMD DSTAR repeater has been off the air with the expectation that 'within the next two days' it would be back on the air. Unfortunately the two days has turned into a little longer than that!! There were some complications caused by the weather and ability of the work crew to work in those conditions. We were also required to some additional structural analysis before they would allow us to put the antenna back on the tower. That has all been completed and now we have reset the clock on "two more days." We're hoping the repeater did not forget how to operate while it sat out the winter storm and that by Monday or Tuesday everything should be back up and running.

Ozark Mountain Hamfest

The Ozark Mountain Amateur Radio Group would like to express our thanks to all that attended the Hamfest on Saturday, January 8. The addition of the Ozark Mountain Barnstormers and related R/C aircraft enthusiasts was fantastic. The testing, provided and thanks to the Nixa Amateur Radio Club (Kent, Gary, Richard, Terry), had a great testing session and stayed busy! We would also like to thank the Boy Scouts who helped serve food at the Ham Cafe, as well as the Faith Lutheran Church for use of the facilities. Many thanks to Associated Radio, D&L Antenna, Hilltop Embroidery, Microlog Software/WA0H, WB0W, Dale Bagley K0KY for the ARRL, Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club(Steve, Patti and Jamas) and all the others who came and set up shop! We are already looking forward to the next event this Spring which will be an Antenna Party. Details to follow soon...!

2011 Ozark Mountain Hamfest

Mark your calendars - January 8th, 2011. Location is again at Faith Lutheran Church, 1517 E. Valley Water Mill Road, Springfield MO. Welcome this year to the Ozark Barnstormers R/C Airplane Club who will be joining in with swap and sell tables, so should be a lot to see this year. Welcome back to WB0W, Associated Radio, D&L antenna, Hilltop Embroidery and WA0H-Microlog Software. Ham License Testing (big thanks again to Nixa Amateur Radio Club) to be held at 10AM.

Doors open for the 'Fest at 8AM - with setup for swap and sell tables from 6AM to 8AM. Admission is $5 per person, and tables are again no charge this year; but one table per person/callsign. ~~Reserve now, because tables are limited.~~ TABLES ARE GONE! THANKS TO ALL FOR THE GREAT RESPONSE!

Field Day 2010

Field Day at Camp Arrowhead Boy Scout Camp - Marshfield, MO

Jim Dobkins, KC0OKO and company operated Field Day at Camp Arrowhead just east of Marshfield MO. The Camp is part of Ozark Trails Council BSA and was founded in 1924. There were three SSB stations operating during the event, using a 1x1 call K0S to commemorate "Field Day at Camp Arrowhead".

Field Day 2010 is fast approaching! June 26th-27th will be here before we know it. Several events will be held around the Ozarks area for folks to participate in.

* The Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club (SMARC - http://www.smarc.org/) will hold Field Day at the Red Cross Disaster Services Building at the northwest corner of Division and West Bypass in Springfield.

* The Nixa Amateur Radio Club (NARC - http://www.nixahams.net/) will have Field Day at the northeast corner of US 160 and MO 14 in Nixa (that is just south of Kum & Go and Price Cutter in the large parking lot/grassy area).

     * The Webster County ARES group will hold Field Day at Boy Scout Camp Arrowhead, located just east of Marshfield. More info on this event to follow.
    * Tri-Lakes Amateur Radio Club (http://tlarc.club.officelive.com/default.aspx) is holding Field Day at Mincy Wildlife Refuge - for more info and maps see their website.

Antenna Party and more

Thanks to all who gathered at Faith Lutheran Church for the OMAR Antenna Party on April 17th. We enjoyed some great snacks and chili, along with great weather. This may mark the first antenna party in a few years where some antennas were actually built along with the normal great eyeball QSOs.

ARES District D HF Net

The Missouri ARES District D check in net is held the first and third Thursdays of every month, at 7:00PM on or around 3.963 MHz. This net is for any amateur operator to check in and test their HF equipment and all are encouraged to participate. Check-in's are taken by county. Hope to hear you on the net!

April 3, 2010 -- OARS HAMFEST - Mount Vernon, MO

The OARS Hamfest will be held at the Mount Vernon Middle School, 731 Landrum St, Mt Vernon, MO. Hamfest will run 8am to 4pm. Admission is $5; vendors to include D&L Antenna, American Antennas and Hilltop Embroidery. VE Testing at 10AM. Breakfast, Lunch and Drinks will be available with plenty of room to eat and visit! Reserved tables $8 or $10 the day of the hamfest if available! Tailgate space $6 preadmission or $8 at the door plus admission. April 17th, 2010 -- OMAR Antenna Party - Springfield, MO

The OMAR Antenna Party will be on April 17th at the Faith Lutheran Church in Springfield, MO. Plans are to build a project or two (hopefully the weather will cooperate) and enjoy some eyeball QSOs. There will be a "crash course" instructional class for anyone that would like to prepare for their Technician exam; and two testing sessions will be held, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
